| My name is Ron Lucas, a resident of Mapleton from 1941 thru 1955 with a couple years in there living both there and the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant west of Kansas City (with my folks). I now live in Kansas City. |
| |
| It is an interesting coincidence that I have been scanning several thousand pictures belonging to my parents over the last few weeks and have quite a few of former Mapleton residents. Lucas, Loar, Quick and Atkins families. |
|
| My grandparents lived out southwest of town by the Mark Walker place until they moved to town in the early 50's. The only other Lucas' I know of in the area was Russell (my uncle) who lived up north of Mapleton. Had two boys (Bill and Jim) and a daughter (Marilyn). I haven't been in touch with any of them for more years that I can |
| remember. |

| Homecoming -- |
|
| This is the 1974 Mapleton homecoming in the park. The man is Fred Loar who was being honored as the oldest resident present and the person present who had lived in (near)
Mapleton the longest. Don't know his age at that time but he died in the late 70's.
The lady on the bandstand is Myrtle Kerns. |

| Mapleton School -- Taken in the early '50s...probably a class photo or possibly a RLDS bible school photo. They held things like that at public schools then. Can identify a few of the people. |
| Front row -- unknown, Shipley boy?, Dick Lucas (my brother), Darrell Loar (my cousin), unknown, boy whose last name started with a K?, unknown boy and girl. |
| Second row --Don't know any of them except I believe the first and last girls are twins....Holstein? |
| Third row -- Hazel Dennis (I think she was a cook at the school at one time), don't know any of the kids but the next to the last female is Lucy Needham I believe. |

| Quicks & Loars -- (L to R) Eldon & Lavon Loar (My parents...), Anderson Lee and Clara Frick ( well known RLDS preacher in the area for several thousand years...<g>), Mirriam & Raymond Loar. Picture taken at the house across the alley north of Pruitts store (may have been Post? Hardware at the time) on the east side of the north/south main street, one block north of the main intersection downtown. No exact time but I'd guess late 40's or early 50's. |
