New Streets

The City of Mapleton has been awarded a grant from the State of Kansas to be used to Chip and Seal the gravel streets in town.  This is a two year grant.  Preliminary work (planning, etc) has already started.  Richard Long is the Project Engineer.

New Concession Stand
and Crow's Nest

In Honor of Don Danley, George and Monique Danley are donating a new concession stand and crows nest for the Arena/Ball field area in the City Park.  Plans are for there structures to be in place by June 1, 2008, to be ready for 2008 Homecoming.  Our sincerest thanks to George and Monique!

Panel Partners

A donation has been made to the City of Mapleton to pay for a new "panel" fence (150' x 300') for our Arena.  This donation will cover the panels, cement and paint for the new fence. Placement, installation, welding of the fence will be done by volunteers.  A sign up sheet will be available at the Mapleton C-Store and at the Post Office.  The City council has also planned a parking area (200' x 300' more or less) directly east of the Arena on city owned land.  To finance the parking lot, new audio and new lights, the City Council has established a community participation plan called

Panel Partners

There are 46 panels in the fence.  For a $100.00 donation, families, groups, businesses or individuals can "purchase" a panel with their name on the panel.  Panels may also be  in memory of someone.  The monies collected will be used solely for the parking lot, audio and lights.  Donations may be given to any City Council Member or mailed to the City of Mapleton - P. O. Box 16 - Mapleton, Kansas  66754.  As of this date (03-10-08) five panels have already been purchased.

MARCH:       Preparation of Arena and Parking Lot areas - Bourbon County will haul Dirt            George Danley has volunteered to do grading - Any other volunteers appreciated!  See Mike Hueston.

April 1:     -  Panels delivered.

April 5 -  May 15:      -  Installation of fence - Gravel for parking lot.

May 15 More or less) to May 31  - Concession Stand and Crows Nest installed and hooked up.

June 1: 2008 (hopefully)  -  Dedication of Concession Stand, Crow's Nest, Arena and Parking Lot with Ice Cream and Cake & Drinks.
